Your living space!

Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. EDT– “Green Onions:” Trio for two standards and bass – This Booker T. & the M.G’s largely improvised 1962 recording is one of the most iconic songs to come from Stax Records. It has been described as the most popular instrumental R&B song ever, but it’s basically a 12-bar blues with a mesmerizing Hammond organ line by Booker T. that he wrote when he was 17. The house band of Stax records – the guys that make up the M.G.’s – were simply jamming in the studio one day when an artist failed to show. The result is Memphis soul sound history!

This tune will be relatively easy if you’re very familiar with the tune, but it can be hard to read with its tricky rhythms. Most appropriate for the upper intermediate to advanced level player.
